One night, several years ago, while in South America, in the country of my birth, I had a difficult time. Illness struck my wife and me, and my lifelong partner's health was quite serious as her body and mental condition deteriorated. At one point, when my wife's condition worsened, I took her to an emergency room, and the doctor's opinion who examined her hit me hard —she was given no more than two weeks to live. Back home a few nights later, with my body and soul in miserable conditions and alone with my sleeping wife, I was reminded of Jordan Rubin's story, which I had read in one of his books, the New York Times bestseller "The Maker's Diet." In his story, Rubin mentions that one night, while hospitalized for chronic disease and in very serious condition, he heard the nurse leaving the shift tell the incoming nurse that she was saddened to think that the patient would not make it through the night. Jordan, accepting his situation, approached God in prayer, beginning by thanking him for everything he had received up to that point: studies, sports, and parents who loved him. He was very young, so he ended his prayer of thanksgiving thinking that if God were to heal would like to study to be able to help heal the sick like him. God heard his prayer and from that night onward, he began to heal. Jordan sought complete healing with natural medicines, natural foods, and relevant studies, becoming an authority on nutrition and natural medicine.
Feeling overwhelmed by our situation and thinking about Jordan's story, I also turned to God that night and I put all my heart into my prayer. I was grateful for everything I had received, I asked for forgiveness for my faults and I asked God that in his mercy we could leave this earth together with my wife, because at that moment material things had ceased to matter to me and living without my partner made no sense. The love of God made it possible for both of us to begin to improve and even though we were in our house that we had built to our liking with all the comforts, we decided to follow the advice of our geriatrician and leave the country to obtain better medical conditions in another country.
Domestic and legal problems made the trip very difficult. My wife had to process the necessary documents to leave one country and then enter another, and in her condition, just emerging from the lethargy she had been in, everything became very complicated.
One afternoon, sitting in front of my bedroom window, I had a vision that I didn't understand at first, but after meditating, I understood that God approved the trip, and from then on, everything became easier, and people I didn't know helped us enormously, and finally we boarded the plane...and we flew with great faith and hope.
